Unicommerce or EasyEcom for a Growing Shopify D2C Brand

If you sell on Shopify and on marketplaces such as Amazon or Flipkart, one stock count across every channel stops being optional. Unicommerce and EasyEcom are two Indian order and inventory platforms that brands shortlist for that job. They overlap a lot, and both lean hard on the words "real time". This guide sets out what each vendor says, what we could verify, and what to test before you sign.

Vendor claims and prices checked on 15 October 2026 from Unicommerce's and EasyEcom's websites and EasyEcom's Shopify App Store listing. Shopify limits are from the Shopify Help Centre. Vendor terms change, so confirm before you buy.

Do you need an OMS at all, or is Shopify enough?

Shopify covers more than many brands expect. You can track stock by location, fulfil from more than one place and see every order in one admin. The real question is how many places you have to keep in step, and whether a person can do it by hand without errors.

Shopify's own location limits are a useful starting point. On the Starter plan a store can have 2 active locations. Basic, Grow and Advanced allow 10, and Shopify Plus allows 200. Locations you deactivate do not count toward the limit, and apps that stock inventory for you are treated as locations but do not use up the allowance.

Four figures: Shopify Starter allows 2 active locations, Basic Grow and Advanced allow 10, Shopify Plus allows 200, and EasyEcom charges $0.49 per order
Shopify location limits by plan, and the per-order fee on EasyEcom's App Store listing. Sources are linked in the text.

Shopify alone is usually enough when:

  • You sell only on your Shopify store, or on Shopify plus one channel you can manage by hand.
  • Everything ships from one warehouse, or from one 3PL that already holds and counts its own stock.
  • Your catalogue is small enough that a spreadsheet and a regular physical count keep the numbers honest.
  • Returns are few enough that someone can match each one to its original order without a system.

An OMS starts paying for itself when:

  • The same SKUs sell on Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra or other marketplaces. Every sale on one channel has to reduce the available count on the others.
  • Stock sits in more than one warehouse or store, and you need rules for which location ships which order.
  • You use more than one courier and want the system to choose one, or switch when a shipment fails.
  • Returns arrive from several channels and somebody has to grade them and put good stock back on sale.
  • Your accounting or ERP needs order and stock data in a shape Shopify does not hold.

A quick test: if you have had a stockout on one channel while another channel still showed stock in the last three months, you already need inventory sync. If you have a single warehouse and no marketplace, a clean Shopify setup and a disciplined count routine is the better first spend.

How does each platform connect to Shopify?

Both vendors describe a Shopify connection that brings orders in automatically. The details differ, and the details are what you pay for, so ask for them in writing.

EasyEcom's Shopify page says it syncs orders, inventory, catalogue, fulfilment status and returns, in both directions. It describes setup as one click to authorise the store, with no API keys needed, and says most stores go live the same day. It says the integration is built on the official Shopify API and uses real-time webhooks. Those are vendor statements. Its Shopify App Store listing, EasyEcom Inventory Management, is published by Edgewise Technologies Pvt Ltd and shows no monthly fee. It charges $0.49 (USD) per order, with bulk pricing on request, and notes that external charges may be billed by Edgewise separately from your Shopify invoice.

Unicommerce's Shopify integration page describes a Shopify integration that brings in orders and shipments from a Shopify store, and says it offers real-time inventory sync with Shopify POS. We did not find a public Unicommerce listing on the Shopify App Store when we checked, so ask how its connector is installed, who hosts it, and who you call when an import fails.

Put the same question to both vendors: when a Shopify order fails to import, how do you find out, and how long before it reaches the queue? A vendor that cannot answer that plainly is telling you something about its support.

How does multi-channel inventory sync work in practice?

The phrase to test is "one stock pool". EasyEcom's page says every warehouse feeds one live stock pool and that it pushes the combined available quantity back to Shopify. It states that the update reaches Shopify within 60 seconds of a sale or stock movement. That is a claim to measure in your own store, not a guarantee.

Unicommerce's site says it tracks stock levels in real time across all warehouses and sales channels, and that inventory updates when a sale happens or a return is processed. It lists low-stock alerts and demand forecasting from sales history. We did not find a stated sync latency figure on its pages.

In practice, sync problems usually come from mapping, not speed. Two SKUs sharing one barcode, a variant that never got its own SKU, or a bundle that was never split into components will show a wrong count on every channel at once. Our guide on why Shopify inventory stops syncing and how to find the cause walks through those checks. For brands with stock in several locations, how multiple Shopify warehouses lead to overselling explains the routing gap that a pool-based system is meant to close.

What warehouse features should you compare?

Warehouse features decide whether the system helps your pickers or only your reports. Here is what each vendor says, with the type of source noted.

EasyEcom's App Store listing describes a warehouse management system with shelf management and handheld scanning. Its EasyVMS add-on records packing footage tied to order IDs, which helps settle return disputes. Its site says orders route to the right warehouse when they arrive, and that merchants can choose which warehouse fulfils a Shopify order. Its Growth plan adds FIFO inventory and SKU-level barcoding, and its Enterprise plan adds item-level barcoding with FEFO and expiry tracking. The Starter plan is built for one warehouse.

Unicommerce's site describes multi-location warehouse management with real-time updates, batch and expiry handling with FIFO and FEFO, and serial-number tracking. It says orders can be routed by delivery timeline and warehouse proximity, and that a failed shipment can move to the next logistics partner. Its own figures are 118+ logistic partners and 290+ plug-and-play integrations. Those are vendor claims, and the count covers all channels, not only Shopify.

Test these against your floor, not the feature list. Ask each vendor to show the pick list for one order that spans two warehouses, then the packing screen, then the receipt for a return. The screens will tell you more than the brochure.

Which one fits which kind of brand?

We will not pick a winner, because the right answer depends on your order mix, warehouse count and how much configuration your team wants to own. Use this rough guide to narrow the list before the demos.

Your situation What to check first
One warehouse, Shopify plus one marketplace Whether a single-warehouse plan is enough. EasyEcom's Starter plan covers one warehouse and up to 3 users, according to its site.
Several warehouses or 3PLs, many marketplaces Routing rules and courier switching, which both vendors describe. Ask to see the routing rule screen working on a live order.
ERP or accounting heavy Check named integrations on each vendor's list. EasyEcom's Enterprise plan names SAP, Oracle and NetSuite. We did not confirm an equivalent list for Unicommerce.
Returns heavy, such as apparel Return grading, putting good stock back on sale, and evidence for disputes. EasyVMS is an EasyEcom add-on, so ask Unicommerce what it offers for the same job.

On price, neither vendor publishes plan fees on its site. EasyEcom says it quotes each plan after a walkthrough and that pricing scales with order volume, SKU count, warehouses and users. Unicommerce's site describes plans by monthly order volume and shows no figures. The only published fee we could read today is the $0.49 per order on EasyEcom's App Store listing. Ask both vendors for a written quote covering the full stack, including add-ons such as EasyEcom's reconciliation and dispute tools.

What should you ask in a demo?

A demo is a sales meeting unless you steer it. These questions are hard to answer with a slide, so ask for the screen:

  1. Show one live order from Shopify to packed and shipped, then show what happens when the courier API is down.
  2. How long does a marketplace sale take to reduce the Shopify count, and how is that measured? Show me the sync log for the last 24 hours.
  3. How do you map a Shopify variant, a bundle and a marketplace listing to one master SKU? Map three SKUs from our catalogue on screen.
  4. Does your Shopify connector use a public app install, or a manually created access token? Who manages that token when it expires?
  5. How many warehouses, users and SKUs does each plan include, and what happens when we add a warehouse in month six?
  6. When Shopify, your system and the courier disagree about an order, who owns the ticket, and what is the response time in writing?
  7. If we leave, can we export all orders, stock movements and returns, and in what format?
  8. Which claims are in the contract? Put the sync time and uptime commitment in writing, or treat them as marketing.

What are the migration risks?

Switching an OMS in the middle of a busy season is where most brands lose stock accuracy. These are the risks we see most often:

  • Double counting during cutover. If the old system and the new one both push stock to Shopify for a few hours, the count is wrong on every channel. Choose a low-sales window, stop the old push first, then import.
  • Open orders in two systems. An order already picked in the old system can be imported again into the new one. Decide which system owns each open order before the switch.
  • SKU and barcode mismatch. One barcode shared by two products, or a variant with no SKU, causes wrong picks. Clean the master list before you import it.
  • Courier and return setup. Courier credentials, return addresses and waybill series may need re-linking. Run one return end to end before you go live.
  • Historical data. Ask whether past orders and stock movements import, or whether you start from zero. You need that history for GST records and for reorder forecasts.

Our guide on what breaks when Shopify connects to an ERP covers the same failure points in more depth, including the Shopify plan limits that catch many brands out.

Our view for a growing brand

If you sell on marketplaces and run two or more warehouses, shortlist both vendors and run the same test order through each. Judge them on the sync log, the mapping screen and the support answer in writing, not on the integration count. If you run one warehouse and one marketplace, start with the cleanest Shopify setup you can build, and add an OMS when a stockout or a wrong pick starts costing you orders.
