Celebrity Ecommerce Website Development Company in India
If you are a celebrity, an athlete, or the team behind one, and you are looking for an ecommerce or D2C website development company in India, you are probably not buying a website. You are buying a store launch that has to work the first time, in public, with your name on it. This guide explains what a celebrity ecommerce website development company should actually do, how celebrity D2C projects differ from ordinary ones, what to ask before you hire, and how we approach this work at ExactWhy.
ExactWhy is a Shopify development company based in Surat, India. We developed the Shopify store for AQUON, the hydration brand from cricketers Yuzvendra Chahal and Ishant Sharma. Nothing below depends on fees, which vary too much by project to be useful in a general article.
What does a celebrity ecommerce website development company build?
Usually one of three things, and the first job of a good agency is working out which one you need:
- A D2C brand store. The celebrity has launched, or is launching, a product brand: skincare, beverages, apparel, fitness, food. The website is an online store whose job is to sell direct to customers, and the celebrity is the reason people first visit. AQUON is this type.
- A merchandise store. Official merchandise for fans, often sold in drops around a release, tour or tournament, with stock that sells out fast.
- A brand store alongside marketplaces. The D2C website sits next to Amazon, Flipkart and quick commerce listings, and has to agree with them on price, offers and stock.
All three are ecommerce builds, and all three live or die on product pages, checkout, payments and fulfilment rather than on how the homepage looks. If what you actually need is a profile or press website with nothing for sale, our guide to what kind of website a celebrity needs covers that, and an ecommerce company is the wrong hire.
How is a celebrity D2C website project different from a normal one?
Four things change when the name on the store is famous.
The launch date is not yours to move. It is tied to a press announcement, a campaign shoot, a tournament or a film release. A normal client can slip a week. A celebrity launch cannot, so the agency has to plan backwards from the date and protect it.
Traffic arrives before trust. The announcement sends a crowd of first-time visitors in a few days. Almost none know the product. The site has to explain it, prove it and sell it to strangers, all on a phone. Our celebrity brand launch checklist covers what that takes.
Mistakes are public. A broken checkout on a small store loses a few orders. On a celebrity launch it becomes a screenshot on social media. Testing is not optional, and neither is someone watching the store on launch day.
More people have a say. The celebrity, their manager, the brand's founders, a design studio, a marketing agency, sometimes investors. A good development partner keeps decisions moving without getting lost between them. On AQUON, for example, the design was by Abhiraj Solanki of Brix Studio, and our job was to turn those designs into a working Shopify store. We explain how that split works in who built the AQUON website.

What should a celebrity ecommerce website agency deliver?
More than pages. For a brand store, these are the deliverables we would expect from any agency, including us:
| Area | What you should get |
|---|---|
| Design | A storefront that looks like the brand, not a template, built from your designer's files or designed by the agency |
| Product pages | Clear titles, benefits, proof and offers, built so the team can edit them without a developer |
| Checkout and payments | Indian payment providers, cash on delivery rules and a checkout tested on real phones |
| Speed | A short app list and pages that load quickly on mobile data |
| Launch plan | Test orders, offer checks, stock checks and a named person watching the store on launch day |
| Ownership | The store, domain, apps and every third-party account registered to the brand, not the agency |
| Handover | Documentation of what was customised, and a support plan for the weeks after launch |
The last two rows matter more for celebrity brands than for anyone. A famous name attracts attention from people who want access to accounts. Make sure every login belongs to the brand, and that the agency works through proper access, such as a Shopify collaborator account, not shared passwords. Our guide to giving a developer store access safely explains how.
Should a celebrity brand use Shopify?
For a brand that sells products in India, usually yes. Shopify runs hosting, security and checkout infrastructure, so a launch-day crowd is not a server problem. It works with Indian payment providers and checkout tools for cash on delivery. And it lets the brand team run the store day to day without calling a developer for every price change.
Within Shopify, there are two ways to build the storefront. Most brands, AQUON included, use a custom theme: the brand's own sections built on top of a solid base. A few go further with Hydrogen, Shopify's framework for fully custom storefronts. Flux Theory, Ranbir Kapoor's shower brand, is a recent example, which we wrote about in the story of Flux Theory's store. Hydrogen gives total creative control and needs more development to run, so it suits a minority of launches. Our article on when headless Shopify is worth it sets out the trade-off.
How long does a celebrity ecommerce website take to build?
It depends less on the celebrity than on what is ready when the project starts. The things that set the timeline are:
- Whether design is done. Building from finished design files is faster than designing and building together.
- Whether products are ready. Final names, photos, descriptions, prices and stock. Missing product content is the most common reason a store is ready and the launch is not.
- How custom the storefront is. A custom theme is quicker to build than a fully custom Hydrogen storefront.
- How many people approve. Every extra approver adds a round of feedback.
- Integrations. Warehouse, marketplace or ERP connections add work and testing.
The honest way to get a timeline is to share the launch date and what exists already, and let the agency tell you what fits. If the date is fixed and the scope does not fit, agree early what launches on day one and what follows in the weeks after. Our guide to scoping a Shopify project covers how.
What should you ask a celebrity ecommerce agency before hiring them?
These questions separate teams who have done D2C launch work from teams who build ordinary websites:
- Which live stores have you built, and what exactly did you do on each? Design, development or both. A clear answer here is a good sign. Vague credit for "the whole project" is not.
- How do you plan backwards from a fixed launch date? Ask what gets cut first if time runs short.
- What happens on launch day, and who is watching?
- How will you handle cash on delivery and returns for first-time buyers?
- Who owns the store, domain and app accounts at the end? The answer should be you, in writing.
- Can our team update the homepage and product pages without you?
- What support do you give in the first weeks after launch?
Our guide to reading a Shopify quote covers how to compare proposals once you have them.

How does ExactWhy approach celebrity and founder-led brands?
We are a Shopify development company, so our work starts where selling starts. On a celebrity brand project, that means:
- Working with your designer, or designing ourselves. On AQUON we developed from a design studio's files. Where there is no designer, we bring design in.
- Custom where the brand is different, standard where it is not. The brand's own sections are built for it. Cart, search and navigation stay on proven foundations, because rewriting them adds risk without adding anything a shopper notices.
- A short, deliberate app list. AQUON launched with a checkout tool, a reviews app and tracking, and little else. We explained why in the Shopify stack behind AQUON.
- Planning from the launch date backwards, with testing and launch-day cover built into the plan, not added at the end.
- Everything in the brand's name. Store, apps and accounts belong to the brand from day one.
