Wix to Shopify Migration for Indian Brands, Step by Step
Many Indian brands start on Wix because it is quick to set up and looks good on day one. The move to Shopify usually comes later, when the catalogue grows, cash on delivery and courier integrations start to matter, or the store needs apps Wix does not have. This guide explains what moves from Wix to Shopify cleanly, what does not, how to protect your Google rankings, and how to plan the switch so orders keep coming in.
Platform details are from the Shopify Help Centre and Wix Help Center, checked on 6 October 2026. Both platforms change their tools often, so recheck the export and import options in your own admin before you start.
Why do Indian brands move from Wix to Shopify?
Wix is a website builder that added ecommerce. Shopify is an ecommerce platform that added a website. That difference shows up as a store grows. The reasons we hear most often from Indian founders are practical rather than about looks:
- Indian checkout and payments. Shopify works with the Indian gateways and checkout apps most D2C brands use, such as Razorpay, Cashfree, GoKwik and Shiprocket Checkout. Our Razorpay and Cashfree guide covers the gateway side.
- Cash on delivery controls. Indian stores need to manage COD, verify orders and cut return to origin losses. The Shopify App Store has far more tools built for this.
- Courier and marketplace connections. Shiprocket, Delhivery and other Indian logistics partners, plus marketplace and ERP connectors, are built for Shopify first.
- Room to grow. B2B, multiple markets, Shopify Plus and custom development when the brand needs it.
If your Wix store is small, sells a few products and works well, there may be no reason to move yet. Migration is worth it when the platform is limiting sales or operations, not just because another platform is popular.
What data can you move from Wix to Shopify?
Most store data can move. The method decides how much work it takes. According to Shopify's migration guide, Wix is one of the platforms supported by Shopify's own Store Migration app, which can import products, customers, historical orders, gift cards and store credits, blogs and pages. Products and customers can also be moved by CSV file.
| Data | How it moves | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Products and variants | Store Migration app, or Wix product CSV export reshaped into Shopify's CSV format | Variant options, images and SEO fields need checking product by product |
| Customers | Store Migration app or CSV | Passwords never move; customers set a new one |
| Order history | Store Migration app or the API | Turn off new order notifications before importing |
| Blog posts and pages | Store Migration app, or copy across | Internal links inside posts still point to old Wix URLs |
| Design and layout | Rebuilt in a Shopify theme | Nothing in the Wix design transfers; this is a rebuild |
| Apps and forms | Replaced with Shopify apps | Map every Wix app to a Shopify equivalent before you start |
On the Wix side, the product export is under the Products tab, then More Actions, then Export. Wix notes two limits worth knowing: exporting digital products is not supported, and one CSV file holds up to 5,000 rows. Orders can be exported from the Orders tab as a CSV, either one row per order or one row per item, with purchase times in UTC.
What does not move from Wix to Shopify?
This is the part that catches people out, so plan for it from the start:
- Your design. Wix templates do not convert into Shopify themes. You choose a Shopify theme and rebuild the look, or have a custom theme built. This is also a good moment to fix what was not working on the old site.
- Customer passwords. No platform exports passwords. Customers who had accounts will need to set a new password on Shopify. Many brands send an account invitation email after launch.
- Digital products. Wix does not export them by CSV, so they are set up again on Shopify with a digital downloads app.
- Wix apps and their data. Reviews, loyalty points, subscriptions and form submissions sit inside each app. Some Shopify apps can import reviews from a CSV, others cannot. Check before you cancel anything.
- Your URLs. Shopify uses its own URL structure, so every page address changes. That needs redirects, covered below.

How do you protect SEO when moving from Wix to Shopify?
With a complete redirect map. Google has indexed your Wix URLs, and other sites link to them. If those addresses stop working after the move, rankings and traffic drop. Redirects tell Google and visitors where each page has moved.
The URL patterns differ between the two platforms. Wix product pages use the prefix "product-page" by default, so a product sits at an address like yourstore.com/product-page/red-cotton-kurta, though Wix lets owners change the prefix in SEO settings. Shopify always uses fixed paths:
| Page type | Typical Wix URL | Shopify URL |
|---|---|---|
| Product | /product-page/red-cotton-kurta | /products/red-cotton-kurta |
| Category or collection | Varies by how the Wix site was built | /collections/kurtas |
| Blog post | Varies, check your own site | /blogs/news/post-name |
| Content page | /about-us | /pages/about-us |
The steps that protect rankings:
- Crawl the Wix site with a crawler such as Screaming Frog and export every live URL. Add the URLs from your Wix sitemap and your top landing pages in Google Search Console, so nothing is missed.
- Keep the same slugs where you can. If the product handle on Shopify matches the Wix slug, the redirect is simple and the page keeps its name.
- Map each old URL to the closest new page, not to the homepage. A redirect to the homepage throws away most of the page's value.
- Import the redirects into Shopify under Content, then Menus, then URL Redirects, which accepts a CSV import. Shopify's guide also suggests setting up redirects before you transfer the domain.
- Carry over titles and meta descriptions for the pages that bring traffic.
- Submit the new sitemap in Search Console after launch and watch the coverage report for errors over the following weeks.
How long does a Wix to Shopify migration take?
It depends far more on the store than on the platforms. The things that add time are a large catalogue with many variants, years of orders you want to keep, a custom design, many apps to replace, and content such as blogs that need checking link by link. A small catalogue on a ready theme is a short project. A larger brand with custom design, integrations and SEO to protect needs proper planning and testing.
A typical sequence looks like this:
- Audit. List every product, page, app, integration and URL on the Wix store.
- Set up Shopify. Theme, settings, payments, shipping, taxes and GST. Our GST setup guide covers the tax side.
- Move the data. Products first, then customers, then orders and content.
- Build and connect. Theme customisation, apps, courier and checkout integrations.
- Test. Test orders with every payment method, including COD, plus mobile checks and redirect checks.
- Launch. Point the domain to Shopify at a quiet time, then monitor orders, redirects and Search Console.
Should you migrate before or after Diwali?
For most brands, after. Diwali falls on 8 November 2026, and the weeks before it are the busiest of the year for many Indian stores. Launching a new platform in the middle of that adds risk at the worst moment: new checkout, new courier connections and new redirects all being tested by real customers at peak volume.
If your Wix store is already struggling and the season is at risk, a fast, tightly scoped move can still make sense, but plan it to finish well before the peak and keep the scope small. Otherwise, use October and November to plan and build on Shopify in the background, then switch over once the festive rush has passed. Our Diwali readiness guide explains what the peak demands of a store.
What should you check before switching the domain?
- Every product has correct prices, variants, images, stock and weight.
- Products are available on the Online Store sales channel. Shopify notes imported products can arrive but stay unpublished.
- Test orders work with every payment method, including COD and prepaid.
- Shipping rates and courier integrations return the right charges for your pin code zones.
- GST settings and invoice formats are correct.
- Order notification emails, account emails and WhatsApp messages carry your brand and the right links.
- All redirects are in place and tested, including old product and blog URLs.
- Analytics, Meta pixel and Google tags fire on Shopify.
- Your old Wix plan stays active for a short period after launch, so you can check anything you missed.

Can you do a Wix to Shopify migration yourself?
A small store can. If you have a few dozen products, little order history you need to keep, no custom features and modest search traffic, Shopify's Store Migration app and a good theme will get you most of the way. Spend your effort on the redirect map and on testing checkout.
Bring in help when the move carries real risk: a large or complex catalogue, search traffic that brings in a meaningful share of sales, custom design, Indian checkout and courier integrations that must work on day one, or a launch date that cannot slip. In those cases, the cost of a broken migration, in lost rankings and lost orders, is usually higher than the cost of doing it properly.
