Flux Theory, Ranbir Kapoor's Brand, and Its Shopify Store
Flux Theory, the shower brand Ranbir Kapoor launched on 28 September 2026, sells through its own Shopify store at fluxtheory.in. This is the story of the brand and a look at its store from the outside: what it runs on, how five personality-led body washes were turned into a catalogue that is easy to shop, and what other founder-led and celebrity brands can take from it. Everything described here can be checked on the live site.
Store details below are as seen on fluxtheory.in on 3 October 2026. Launch facts are from the press coverage linked in each section. ExactWhy did not build this store. We are writing about it because it is one of the most interesting Shopify launches in India this year.
What is Flux Theory?
Flux Theory is a body-care brand in the shower category. According to Storyboard18's launch report, it was launched in Mumbai by Ranbir Kapoor together with co-founder Advay Jhunjhunwala and the venture-building platform Think9, with five body washes named Lover, Rebel, Dreamer, Sport and Sage.
The idea is that each wash pairs a personality with a fragrance and a specific skin benefit. Advay Jhunjhunwala described the aim as addressing "a body-care category that has traditionally been driven by function, familiarity and scale, while bringing together skin benefits, fragrance and personality."
The brand sells on its own website and, per Indian Retailer's coverage, on Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Tira, Zepto and Instamart from launch. Launch coverage also describes a campaign film that brought back five of Ranbir Kapoor's best-known screen characters, Barfi, Bunny, Jordan, Ayan and Shiva, one for each side of the brand.
What is the Flux Theory store built on?
fluxtheory.in runs on Shopify, using Hydrogen, Shopify's framework for custom storefronts, hosted on Oxygen, Shopify's hosting for Hydrogen. You can see this in the site's response headers, which identify it as "Shopify, Oxygen, Hydrogen". Shopify still runs everything behind the storefront: products, inventory, orders, discounts and customer accounts. Checkout uses GoKwik, the checkout widely used by Indian D2C brands for cash on delivery handling.
Hydrogen is not the right choice for every brand. It means a custom-built storefront rather than a theme, which gives full control over how the brand looks and moves, and asks more of the development team in return. We have written separately about when headless Shopify is worth it, and for most stores the answer is a well-built theme. For a launch built around film-style visuals, motion and a strong personality, a custom storefront gives the creative the room it needs.

How are five personalities turned into a catalogue people can shop?
This is the main job of the store. A shopper arriving from the campaign film knows Ranbir Kapoor and maybe one character. They do not yet know which wash is which, or which one suits their skin. The store answers that in three layers.
Each product leads with the benefit, then the personality. Product titles name the active ingredient and the job first, and the personality second. As listed on the live site:
| Personality | Product title on the store |
|---|---|
| The Lover | Glow Body Wash with Vitamin B5 and Argan Oil, 250 ml |
| The Rebel | Exfoliating Body Wash with 2% Salicylic Acid, 250 ml |
| The Dreamer | Hydrating Foam Body Wash with Quad Hyaluronic Acid, 300 ml |
| The Sport | Detanning Body Wash with 5% Niacinamide, 250 ml |
| The Sage | Deep Cleansing Body Wash with Blue Clay, 250 ml |
That order matters for search as much as for shoppers. Nobody searches Google or Amazon for "the rebel body wash" yet. People do search for exfoliating body wash and salicylic acid body wash. Leading with the benefit lets each product page compete for real searches while the personality does the brand work on the page.
The five products behave like one product. On every product page, a "Select variant" row shows all five washes as visual tiles, so a shopper can move between Lover, Rebel, Dreamer, Sport and Sage without going back to a collection. Underneath, they are five separate products, each with its own page, reviews and search presence. On the page, they feel like five versions of the same thing, which is exactly the brand idea.
Packs make trying more than one easy. The Shop All page lists eight products: the five washes, plus packs of three, four and five. The pack of five is called "All Versions Of You". For a brand whose whole idea is that you have more than one side, a pack of every version is the natural first order.
What does the product page do to win the first order?
A launch product page has to answer the doubts of a first-time buyer before they think to ask. On The Rebel's page, for example, the store shows:
- The essentials up front. The MRP, inclusive of taxes, beside the title, then the fragrance and benefit in one line: spicy leather fragrance, controls body acne, dermatologically tested.
- Three short proof points with icons: infused with 2% salicylic acid, sulphate free, long lasting fragrance.
- Offers as copyable codes. Free shipping on orders above Rs 499, 5% off any three and 10% off any four, each in a box the shopper can copy straight into checkout.
- A delivery promise on the button. The add to cart button reads "Add your version" with the expected delivery date underneath, which on 3 October said "Delivery from 4th Oct".
- Reviews from day one. A star rating and review count sit at the top of the page, so trust builds as the first reviews arrive.
The button copy is a small detail that does a lot. "Add your version" keeps the brand voice all the way to the moment of purchase, and the delivery date underneath removes the most common hesitation for a new brand: when will it actually arrive? We wrote about why that works in our guide to showing a delivery date on Shopify.
The offers also do two jobs at once. The free shipping threshold sits just above the price of one wash, and the three and four product offers nudge people towards trying more than one version. That is the brand story and the order value working in the same direction. More on how that kind of offer works in our article on where upsells actually work.

Why does the brand sell on its own store if it is on Amazon and Zepto too?
Because the website is the only place the brand controls completely. Marketplaces and quick commerce apps bring reach, and for an everyday product like body wash, a good share of repeat buying may well happen there. But the campaign film, the five personalities and the full range, packs included, only appear together on fluxtheory.in. It is also the only channel where the brand owns the customer relationship: who bought, which version, and whether they came back.
For a brand launching across seven channels at once, the store also has to stay in step with the rest. Pricing, offers and stock all need to make sense next to Amazon and Zepto listings. We cover how Indian brands handle that in our guides to selling on Shopify alongside Amazon and Flipkart and to quick commerce inventory.
What does Flux Theory have in common with AQUON?
Flux Theory is a launch where the founder is the reason people first visit. So is AQUON, a store we developed, the hydration brand from cricketers Yuzvendra Chahal and Ishant Sharma. The two stores look nothing alike. AQUON runs on a custom Shopify theme, and Flux Theory on Hydrogen. But the jobs underneath are the same:
- Turn attention from press and social media into a first order, quickly.
- Explain a product range to someone who has never heard of it.
- Handle cash on delivery and Indian checkout behaviour from day one.
- Give the founder's story a place on the store without letting it bury the product.
We wrote up how AQUON was built in the Shopify stack behind AQUON. Reading the two together shows the main lesson: the platform choice follows the brand, and the jobs the store has to do are the same either way.
What can other founder-led and celebrity brands take from this?
Four things, none of which depend on having a film star on the label:
- Lead with the benefit, then the personality. The brand idea earns attention, but product titles have to match what people actually search for.
- Make a range feel like one choice. A shopper who can switch between versions on one page compares instead of leaving.
- Answer launch doubts on the page. Price including taxes, proof points, delivery date and offers, all visible before scrolling.
- Treat the website as the brand's home, even when most volume may come from marketplaces later. It is where the story and the customer relationship live.
