What BotSpace Actually Does for a Shopify Store in 2026
Your customer will not open your email. They will open a WhatsApp message in about four seconds. That gap is why WhatsApp tooling has become standard for Indian D2C stores, and why a platform like BotSpace ends up deciding whether a cash on delivery order ships, gets confirmed, or comes back as an RTO. Here is what BotSpace actually is, what it does to a Shopify store in practice, what it costs once Meta's charges are added, and where it does not help.
Everything below is from BotSpace's own pages, its Shopify App Store listing, Meta's developer documentation and named industry reports, checked on 18 September 2026.
What is BotSpace?
BotSpace is a customer messaging platform built around WhatsApp, Instagram and now voice, web chat, email and SMS. It sits between your store and those channels, handling automated messages, campaigns, a shared team inbox, and an AI agent called Rex that answers customer questions and follows up on carts.
The company operates as Gig Production Private Limited, is headquartered in Pune, and lists further offices in Tallinn and Milan. It was co-founded by Bilal Chaglani, who is listed as CEO, and Mayur More on the technology side. Company records put the founding year at 2017, and the Shopify app went live on 22 December 2023.
On its own site the company describes itself as "The #1 AI Agent for Ecommerce" and says it works with 5,000 plus brands across 40 plus countries. Treat that and similar headline numbers as company-stated rather than independently audited, which is normal for this category.
What does BotSpace actually do for a Shopify store?
Ignore the marketing language and look at what the Shopify listing commits to. The app is rated 4.7 from 79 reviews today, and the functions it names are these:
- Abandoned cart recovery through WhatsApp follow-ups and automated voice calls
- COD verification, which is the one that matters most for Indian stores
- Order confirmations and shipment tracking sent automatically
- Support automation for order edits, tracking questions, returns and FAQs, running 24 hours
- Product recommendations based on purchase history, and segmentation for campaigns
- Click to WhatsApp and Instagram DM ad flows, so paid traffic lands in a conversation instead of a form
In Shopify terms, it replaces three things most stores stitch together badly: a support inbox, a notifications system that customers actually read, and an outbound campaign channel that is not email.
Why does WhatsApp matter more for Indian stores than email?
Because of what COD does to your margin. Unicommerce's India D2C Report, published April 2026 and based on 410 million shipments across 6,000 plus brands, found that during the festive quarter COD orders returned at 58%, while prepaid orders returned at under 15%. The same report tracked RTO at 39.2% at the November festive peak, falling to 25.6% by January and 21% for optimised brands by March.
Read those two numbers together. The difference between a 39% RTO rate and a 21% one is not a discount strategy or a better courier. It is mostly whether somebody confirmed the order with a real human or a message the customer actually answered, and whether the buyer was nudged to prepay. That is precisely the job a WhatsApp platform does.
The same report found Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities drove 66% of incremental order volume in FY26, which is exactly where COD share is highest and where an unconfirmed order is most likely to bounce. We covered the operational side of this in our guide to reducing COD and RTO losses.
One honest caveat. You will see claims that WhatsApp recovers carts at four or five times the rate of email. No independently audited study supports those figures for Indian D2C; they come from vendor marketing. WhatsApp clearly gets read more, and that is worth something. Treat specific multiples as sales copy until you have measured your own.
What does BotSpace cost, and what does Meta charge on top?
Two bills, and most stores only plan for the first one.
BotSpace's own pricing, from its pricing page: a Free plan at zero with one seat and up to five workflows, a Pro plan from US$15 a month or Rs 999 a month, and a custom Premium tier. Pro scales by engaged contacts, meaning contacts who both send and receive a message in the month, so the bill grows with conversation volume rather than catalogue size. Add-ons are priced separately: the Rex AI agent at US$0.30 per resolution, AI Copilot at US$9 per seat a month, AI Insights at US$99 a month.
Meta's charges are separate and go directly to Meta. Since 1 July 2025 Meta bills per message rather than per conversation. The rules that decide your bill:
- Marketing templates are charged every time they are delivered. Your broadcast list is a real cost line.
- Utility templates are free inside an open customer service window and charged outside it. Order confirmations and tracking updates sent while the customer is engaged can cost nothing.
- Service conversations have been free for all businesses since 1 November 2024. Support replies are not what makes this expensive.
- Click to WhatsApp ads open a 72 hour free entry point window during which any message type is free.
There is also a deadline worth diarising. Meta launched INR billing localisation on 1 January 2026, and eligible accounts must migrate to INR by 31 December 2026. From 1 January 2027, Meta says it will no longer deliver messages for non-INR accounts belonging to eligible customers. If nobody in your business knows which currency your WhatsApp account bills in, find out this quarter.
Which parts of your store actually improve?
Realistically, four, in this order of impact for an Indian store:
| Area | What changes | How to measure it |
|---|---|---|
| COD quality | Orders confirmed or converted to prepaid before dispatch | RTO rate, prepaid share of orders |
| Cart recovery | Follow-up lands on a channel that gets read | Recovered revenue per 1,000 sends, against your email baseline |
| Support load | Tracking and returns questions answered without a human | Tickets per 100 orders, first response time |
| Paid traffic | Ad clicks open a conversation rather than a cold landing page | Cost per qualified conversation, not cost per click |
What it does not fix: a slow store, a confusing checkout, or a product page that does not answer the question the customer is messaging you about. Messaging tools increase the value of a store that already converts. They do not rescue one that does not, and we have watched brands spend on broadcasts while their checkout leaked. Our cart abandonment playbook covers the on-site half of this.
What should you set up first?
The order matters, because the cheap flows are also the highest return.
- Order confirmation and COD verification. Highest impact on money you are already losing. Utility templates, often free inside the service window.
- Shipping and delivery updates. Cuts the "where is my order" tickets that make up most support volume.
- Abandoned cart follow-up. One message, timed in hours not days, with the cart link.
- Support automation and inbox. Route real questions to a human quickly rather than trapping people in a bot.
- Marketing broadcasts, last. This is the part that is always charged, so start it once the flows above are paying for it.
Get consent right before any of this. Under India's DPDP framework, marketing messages need clear, specific, informed consent with an easy way to withdraw it. Importing a contact list you bought is both a compliance problem and the fastest way to get your WhatsApp number rated down.
Is BotSpace worth it for a smaller store?
The free tier makes a trial genuinely cheap, and Pro from US$15 a month is not the deciding number. Your real budget is Meta's per-message cost multiplied by how disciplined your template strategy is. A store sending 20,000 marketing templates a month pays for every one of them. The same store sending confirmations and tracking inside open service windows can run most of its messaging for very little.
So the question is not whether the platform is affordable. It is whether someone owns the message design. Without that, the cost grows faster than the recovered revenue, which is how most WhatsApp programmes quietly get switched off after four months.
What should you check before you commit?
Five things, in an afternoon:
- Confirm which currency your WhatsApp Business account bills in, and plan the INR migration if needed
- Check that your template categories are correct, since a utility message classified as marketing is charged every time
- Test the COD verification flow on real orders before trusting it at festive volume
- Record your current RTO rate and tickets per 100 orders, so you have a baseline to compare against
- Read the platform's data handling terms, because customer phone numbers are personal data under DPDP

Want this set up properly
Free review. Email hello@exactwhy.com with subject "WhatsApp" and tell us your store URL, your current RTO rate and whether you already run any messaging tool. We respond within 4 hours with the two flows we would build first and what they should cost you in Meta charges at your order volume.
Prefer a form? Send it through the contact page instead. It reaches the same inbox.
The stores that win on WhatsApp are not the ones broadcasting most often. They are the ones who confirmed the order, answered the question, and stopped a parcel from coming back.
